Dance Performance

Nicole Dagesse, Jessie Owens and Hanna Satterlee have been dance partners in many independent works for stage, site, and film since 2016. "Four of the Ways," speaks to their interest in expansive physical possibility, exploring mystery, and showcasing the power of human connection, in this unique performance crafted for the Grange community. "Four of the Ways'' is a play on the series of lithographs that Rockwell Kent created to illustrate the 1937 astronomy lectures at the Hayden Planetarium in NYC about "four of the ways by which celestial perturbations may bring us slow or sudden death.” This title hints that while there are three dancers, there is a “fourth way”, an unruly, unexplained magic that occurs at the junction of three moving bodies.

The performance will mix excerpts from different pieces with improvisational scores. Excerpts will include moments from the “Gestures” performance, along with work from "Tender Hearts" by ANIMAL Dance directed by Hanna Satterlee, “Sing out the Flesh” directed by Nicole Dagesse, selections from original works in progress, as well as improvisational scores the three dancers have collected over their years of collaborating. Following the performance, the dance artists will lead a discussion that will include an opportunity to experience aspects of the dances through audience participation. This will be held at Whitcomb's Arts across the street from the Grange.  More information is here: https://www.thegrangehall.info/events-page/2023/6/25/four-of-the-ways-dance-performance
