Community String Orchestra Concert: Evolution of Occidental Music

Event Description: Join the Community String Orchestra of the Adirondacks for a captivating concert that traces the evolution of Western music from its earliest forms to contemporary pieces. Conducted by Artistic Director Alex Malin, this unique performance will feature a diverse selection of music that highlights various periods and styles.

Program Highlights:

  • Nursery Rhyme & Scottish Folk Tune: Engage with the earliest forms of musical expression.
  • Renaissance: Experience a beautiful Gregorian Chant with "Terribilis est Locus Iste" and "Nuper Rosarum Flores" arranged for string orchestra by Alex Malin.
  • Baroque Era: Enjoy JS Bach's Violin Concerto for 2 solo violins, string orchestra, and harpsichord in three movements. Six soloists (including professionals and a high school student) will perform, accompanied by John Curtis on harpsichord.
  • Classical Era: Listen to Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 30, the "Allelujah Symphony," featuring a full ensemble with strings, recorders, flutes, clarinets, trumpet, and French horn.
  • Romantic Period: Delight in an arrangement of the "Song of Peace" from Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.
  • Modern Times: Enjoy a contemporary piece, "The Song of the Caged Bird" by Lindsey Stirling, with Elizabeth Izzo as the soloist.
