Quantum physics meets social ties as choreographer Rebecca Kelly explores complicated relationships between particles and persons.
A frequent theme in Rebecca Kelly’s ballets is relationships. This season includes Entanglements (2018), described as “science in motion” last year, and A Fine Line of True Togetherness (2004), a sleek and stylized movement piece. How this piece came into being stems from its title. What is a fine line? What is together? What is true?
Kelly reflected on the intimate workings of a company. Togetherness would be thought to hold just as true for a dance company, a tech company, or a team of athletes. But there may be a fine line what constitutes cohesion and smooth operations. Rebecca always looks at human nature first, even as she considers the inner workings of a clock, or a dance for five in 5/4’s, or how to use the energy of dissonance to create harmony.
