Art Opening: “MAKESHIFT” by Julie Warren at Whitcomb's Arts

Whallonsburg, NY - Whitcomb's Arts is proud to announce the opening of “MAKESHIFT,” a colorful and inspiring exhibition featuring the work of artist and early childhood educator, Julie Warren. The exhibit kicks off on Tuesday, November 12 with a reception from 5 - 7 pm and Artist Talk at 5:30pm.

Julie Warren, a resident of the Champlain Valley in the Adirondacks, brings a unique perspective to her art. Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, she studied Fine Art with a focus on painting at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. With a full-time teaching position at Lakeside School and a busy family life with two young children, Julie’s creative journey has evolved significantly over the years.

“MAKESHIFT” showcases a collection of paintings that emerge from the depths of Julie’s creative drive, which she explains, was kept dormant during her early years of motherhood. The exhibition features themes of flowers and colors inspired by the dynamic landscape surrounding her, capturing vignettes from nature that are reimagined on canvas. Julie explains, “Working as an artist is different now as a parent of young children—there is little time to ponder, explore, or plan my work. Instead, these paintings flow from an intuitive place, using muscle memory and executed in short sessions—after school, late at night, and early weekend mornings— in ‘makeshift’ conditions and often with a small child by my side.”

This event is free and open to the public. We invite art lovers and the community to celebrate the resilience of creativity amidst a shifting personal landscape.  Join us for a reception with Julie on November 12th from 5 - 7 pm.

The exhibit runs from November 7, 2024  – January 3, 2025. Whitcomb’s gallery is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 am - 3 pm and some Saturdays from 12pm – 3pm.

Whitcomb’s is located at 1598 NYS Route 22, Whallonsburg, NY, across from the Grange.
